The shop was very clean i recommend you if you like a fresh and new way for fish and chips give it a try. the store is in mermaid waters behind bernies off the highway.
Finally, a decent fish and chip shop!! I used to go to the Varsity Lakes store but since they have opened on Gold Coast Highway, much closer......my mum just needs a store closer to in Southport.

I decided to give FISH a try because of the other reponses , yes it is different in a good way I'm not so sure , I thought it was very expensive for what you get , they use the fish Dory ( Which is really Basa from Vietnam and is illegal to name it as Dory ) A plesant tasting fish Yes but at approx $5 a Kg hardly a Quality fish . There chip portions are very poor also . They use alot of pepper on just about everything which is fine if you like pepper although most children dont. Also I noticed there Barramundi is imported ( Vietnam as well) what ever happened to fresh Australian Fish . Yes Different Although a bit disappointing as I was really looking forward to a quality Fish and chip shop .

I agree it is really hard to find a quality fish store that actually stocks Australian Fish. I only eat Australian fish as there is no way you are getting me to eat something that has come out of the Mekong river even if you paid me. I really don't understand why when right here iN Australia we have some of the best fresh fish in the world, that we have to import catfish from some of the most poluted river systems in the world. I have been to The Fish as i live just around the corner from one but will only buy their chips as I love them and will buy their fish when they start selling some Australian Fish. COME ON PEOPLE WHEN WILL WE LEARN TO SUPPORT AUSTRALIA!!!!
PS there is a great fish and chips shop called Tally Seafood at the Man on the Bike shops in Tallebudgera give them a go they actually sell Aussie fish!!!!

i just dont understand the previous two posts...... yes it is true the menu is different... no it is not true that is is illegal to call basa dory as they are actually the same thiing. also, dory (or basa if you have something stuck up your ass) is oone of the most popular fish served in these styled restaurents it also isn't the only one fish on the menu. i know that in my store in mermaid there is a choice of two austraslian fish: flake and sea perch. now theres your australian alternative. oh and by the way, shop around the chips are competitively priced and cooked in a much healthier way. get a brain

You say get a brain well if you had any brains you would know that Basa is an Imported farmed cat fish from indonesia and it is illegal to name it Dory any any retail outlet in Australia ( Have you not been watching a current affair) if you still dont beleive me maybe you should contact the Australian Food Standards Agency . Dory is a highly priced fish ( John Dory ) and outlets like this one have ripped of the Australian public for to long.

The Fishbone in the Crestwood Plaza have (compared to the average shop) a wide range of fish.
I've had Snapper, barramundhi, perch, dory, trout, salmon, basa (REAL basa not Dory!!!) Flake and more which I forget. Their origin is labelled but it's mainly fresh local Qld fish off the boat.
I recommend asking for it grilled that way you get to taste each type of fish for what it is. They always have a fairly big choice - I've never seen them with less than five types of fish to choose from.
I've been going there for a year now and have always been satisfied with each meal, they're are very consistent.
